Desktop Publishing
If the foreign language document is supposed to be published in the same layout as the source document, it must be ensured as early as when the source document is generated that each language allows for the variable expansion ratios of the text. Thus, for example, based on the German language, an English text is about 10 % shorter and a French one approx. 30 % longer. In order to get an identical layout for all languages, it is recommended when generating the source text to stick to a maximum page fill factor of 75 % (based on German as the language in which it was generated).
In the case of graphically structured texts in particular, though, the need for post-processing very often arises as a result. This is why we provide both the adjustment or post-processing of the layout in the actual DTP program and the editing/replacement of images, as well as the generation of tables of contents, indices, cross-references and special characters. In doing so, we naturally take company-specific particularities, like style guides or character fonts, into account.
