Portuguese is the official language in Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe. In tandem with other languages, Portuguese is the official language in East Timor (along with Tetum) and Macao (along with Chinese). Portuguese is a significant language, albeit not an official one, in Andorra and Luxembourg thanks to immigrants from Portugal (approx. 10 percent of the population), as well as in Namibia and South Africa. In addition, there is a considerable percentage of Portuguese-speaking inhabitants in Belgium, France, Germany and Switzerland. Beside Portuguese proper, there are about 20 creole languages that are preponderantly based on the Portuguese. Creole languages are languages that have developed from several languages in a language contact situation, wherein a greater part of the new language's vocabulary often traces back to one of the contact languages involved.

The distinction between European Portuguese, on the one hand, and African and Brazilian Portuguese, on the other, which constitute two versions in the written language, is important for a Portuguese translation. The differences involve the vocabulary, the pronunciation, the syntax and the orthography. For example, in Brazil, in words that contain the cc, or ct, the initial c is left off, in words that contain the pc, or pt, the p is omitted. These letters are not pronounced, but rather are remnants from the Latin, which have been dropped in Brazil for the most part.

These regional differences are definitely taken into account in the course of your Portuguese translation from Transline.
