Parameters for a Russian Translation
Russian is a global language and is spoken by 255 million people (incl. those who speak it as a second language). Of them, 143 million live in Russia. Thanks to the economic upturn in today's Russian Federation, Russian is in the ascendant once again after the language had become less significant with the collapse of the USSR in the 1990s.
Russian is one of the globally most important linguistic vehicles for science, art and technology and is virtually imperative as a business language in the post-Soviet economic zone. Russian is also spoken in many countries by Russian immigrants. The majority live in Israel (1 million Russian speakers, a sixth of the population), in the USA (338,000 Russians and 5 million Russian Americans) and in Germany (180,000). Russian is also important as a linga franca in many Central Asian countries like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Iran and in the states of the Caucasus.
